What's covered

What this knowledge check covers

  • Recognizing the signs of possible cardiac arrest
  • Calling 911 and activating emergency response
  • Giving high-quality chest compressions
  • Using an AED safely and effectively

Why it matters

Why learn CPR?

Cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, to anyone, without warning — often before professional help can arrive. Public-health organizations like the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross note that a bystander who recognizes what is happening and starts CPR right away can make a meaningful difference in someone's chances before EMS arrives.

That is the idea behind this knowledge check: a free, low-pressure way to see what you already know and learn what to review next, whether or not you ever take a hands-on class.

Please note

This is education, not certification

Educational information only. This website and knowledge check are not a CPR course, skills evaluation, medical consultation, or certification program. They do not replace high-quality, hands-on CPR and AED training from a qualified instructor. In an emergency, call 911 and follow the dispatcher's instructions.

Build real skills with hands-on CPR training

This website can help you review general CPR and AED concepts, but it cannot evaluate hand placement, compression depth, compression rate, recoil, rescue breaths, AED operation, or your ability to respond under pressure. It does not replace high-quality, hands-on CPR and AED training from a qualified instructor.
